Pacquiao vs. Algieri to get just one 24/7 episode on HBO on November 8th

In what has to be seen as a bad indication of how they perceived the November 22nd fight between Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri, HBO will be televising just one Pacquiao/Algieri 24/7 episode instead of multiple ones like we’ve seen with many of Pacquiao’s other boxing fights.

 The Pacquiao/Algieri 24/7 episode will be televised on November 8th at 1:00 a.m. (ET/PT on HBO after the Bernard Hopkins vs. Sergey Kovalev fight on Championship Boxing from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The bad news is that if the Pacquiao-Algieri fight does poorly on PPV like some boxing writers think it will then Pacquiao will lose pretty much all the bargaining power that he ever had with Floyd Mayweather Jr. If Pacquiao-Algieri brings in only 400,000 PPV buys or less, Pacquiao would be lucky to get a 70/30 purse split for a Mayweather fight, and I doubt Pacquiao would ever accept that offer.

 Boxing fans will have to be satisfied with seeing just one 30-minute episode of the Pacquiao-Algieri 24/7, because that’s all HBO is going to be putting out for this fight. This is obviously going to hurt the chances of the Pacquiao vs. Algieri fight bringing in a reasonable number of pay-per-view buys on HBO, because the 24/7 episodes was one way for Algieri to introduce himself to the casual boxing fans, many of which have never seen or heard him before.

 Algieri himself said that during the run up to the fight that fans would get to know him more due to the media coverage. But with HBO just going to for one Pacquiao/Algeri 24/7 episode, it’s going to make it very, very tough for Top Rank to get the casual fans excited about the fight. Algieri hasn’t helped matters any by playing mister nice guy during interviews and on the press tour.

If he had talked trash about Pacquiao, he’d have helped his own cause by getting boxing fans excited about the fight. But Algieri has come across as more of college professor when giving interviews than a charismatic trash talker that he needed to be for him to help make the Pacquiao-Algieri fight a success.

You can only wonder what 4 or 5 episodes of Pacquiao/Algieri would have been like on HBO 24/7. With neither fighter having anything bad to say about each other, and with one of the only interesting people now gone from Pacquiao’s camp in Alex Ariza, boxing fans would likely have to be content with watching Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach brag and make bold predictions for 30 minutes of every episode. That obviously wouldn’t have worked.

Manny Pacquiao shouldn't be serious about basketball

Manny is a dreamer. We all know that. Otherwise he wouldn't be what he is today. He wouldn't be the greatest boxer in today's time.

But to dream without being realistic is another thing. Well, he could be a politician, like what he is right now. He could be a successful businessman. But to engage himself in other sports is not necessary.

I mean, we saw Michael Jordan played baseball when he quit NBA for awhile due to injury. But he never got serious about it. He was good. He can pitch and he can bat and make a home run.

But he never continued.

I hope Manny just forget about the game of basketball. Our bodies have limitations.

I hope he just get serious about the sports of boxing. Prepare himself in upcoming fight against Algieri.

So pump it up Manny. Get your gloves and start boxing for the world's sake.

Floyd Mayweather wants to retire undefeated so he must beat Manny Paquiao

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has already announced his retirement next year; and based on the observation of some people who are very close to him, he wants to retire undefeated. They added that the “Money Man” will take the challenge of Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao after his successful title defense against Amir Khan next year. Said report was almost confirmed by his father/trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. during his interview with Ben Thompson of Fight Hype yesterday, Oct. 8, 2014.

"Man, I'm pretty sure that if don't nothing else happen, I'm pretty sure he's going to get Pacquiao. It's going to happen. That fight's going to happen. Trust me. That fight's definitely going to happen. It's a fight for the world, man, right there. It's the biggest fight that has ever been in life, so like I said man, that fight's going to happen. I’m telling you right now, he never told me the fight's going to happen, but I’m telling you, the fight's going to happen. You mark my words. Pacquiao is tailor-made for Floyd. He's tailor-made to eat the right hand all day long," the older Mayweather confirmed to Ben Thompson.

Before his declaration that his son will definitely take the challenge of the former pound for pound king Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao, Floyd Sr. has already confirmed that Floyd Jr. will face and demolish Amir Khan next year. In an interview with Ben Thompson last Oct. 6, Floyd Sr. almost belittled the ability of Amir Khan, according to him; his unbeaten son will just punish the British boxer if the fight happens.

 He also described Amir Khan as a joke blowing smoke with no hope. “Amir Khan is joke blowing smokes with no hope. He can't out-think Floyd on Floyd's worst day. I'm here to tell you that I will be there and I will make sure every time he throws a punch, he is going to get countered. He is going to get punished, believe me, Floyd Sr. stated.

His separate announcement of Floyd Jr.'s future opponents before his retirement next year has received mix reaction from boxing fans that are very much eager to see the mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao happen. Some of them are saying Floyd will definitely beat Amir Khan while other people believe that Mayweather might get his first loss to Amir.

They have also commented on the Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown after Amir Khan, according to them; Manny has a very good chance of defeating Floyd because of his power and speed but they also warned their fellow boxing fans to wait for the result of the bout first before they speculate because Mayweather might get his 49-0 record and retire unbeaten if the "PacMan" will continue to entertain his extra-curricular activities.

UPDATE ON MIKE KONCZ MEDICAL CONDITION

Manny Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz informed us a short while ago that things “did not go as good as we hoped in today’s operation and the doctors were just in my room and said we need to do a bigger operation.”

Koncz is confined at the Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital in San Juan, Metro Manila. Koncz said it would mean "replacing the main artery from the groin all the way to the knee because there was too much damage that they could not fix in today’s operation.” He informed us that an additional bypass operation will be done on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. even as he insisted:

“I will still fly back to GenSan by Saturday.”
