BOXING: MANNY PACQUIAO WILL RETIRE IN 2016, SAYS PROMOTER BOB ARUM

{DISCLAIMER: The following article is first published in sherdog.com. See it here}

Top Rank Boxing founder and CEO Bob Arum this week said that superstar Manny Pacquiao will retire in 2016 after one final bout, according to a Wednesday report from TMZ Sports.

Currently sidelined due to injury, Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) will focus on his political career full-time once he hangs up his gloves, according to Arum. “Pac-Man” will initially seek a senatorial position within the Philippines’ government, but his ultimate goal is to become president of his homeland.

There is no timetable or possible opponent for Pacquiao, who has twice been elected to the Filipino congress.

Pacquiao last fought in May, when he lost an uneventful unanimous decision to nemesis Floyd Mayweather Jr. in what became the highest-grossing boxing match of all time. Pacquiao drew the ire of millions of fight fans when he revealed an injured shoulder after the contest, blaming that for his lack of offensive firepower and sluggish performance. Pacquiao reportedly underwent surgery to repair the shoulder.

Mayweather will allegedly fight for the last time ever against unheralded Andre Berto on Sept. 12 in Las Vegas. However, rumors have swirled for months that Mayweather will fight Pacquiao in a rematch next May when the new MGM and AEG-owned Las Vegas Arena finally opens its doors. Both the Mayweather and Pacquiao camps have strongly and constantly denied the rumors.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Andre Berto news: Mayweather again stands up for Berto

{The following article is written by Nikko Villanueva of Christiantoday.com (Nice name for a domain talking about boxing, hahaha!)}

Floyd Mayweather Jr. really believes in the ability of his next opponent Andre Berto and in an interview video posted by Fighthype.com, the undefeated champion again had good words for his next challenger.

When Mayweather made the announcement that he will be facing Berto, a lot of people were surprised and started to question who Berto is and what he did to get a shot at the number one pound-for-pound king.

The 38-year-old champion already said before that Berto is entertaining and is deserving of a title shot.

Floyd Mayweather brags about his new $4.8M car

{The article below is from TOpGear.com. Read the original article here.}

We all know American boxing champion Floyd Mayweather is a douchebag rich man, and as such he can very well afford to do things only douchebags wealthy guys can do. Like buy stupendously expensive supercars hypercars on a whim and then brag about it on social media.

So here's the latest acquisition of the controversial pugilist--a Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita, which, according to Mayweather, was purchased for a whopping $4.8 million. And he made sure his nearly eight million followers on Instagram knew about it, posting the above photo with the following caption (in italics):

My new 4.8 Million dollar car. $4,800,000.00 Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita supercar. KOENIGSEGG Is An ULTRA Boutique Automobile Manufacturer For The Super Rich. KOENIGSEGG made only 2 TREVITA'S for the World, and this is No. 2 of 2. In addition it is the only USA Spec TREVITA Built in the World. The Origin of the car is Sweden. The word TREVITA means "3 Whites." It is beyond a Super Car, and is classified as a "Hyper Car."

Silverman: The Best Ever? Floyd Mayweather Jr. Needs To Calm Down Just A Bit

{The following news article is first published in CBS. Read it here.}

Less than a month from now, Floyd Mayweather Jr. will step into the ring with Andre Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and supposedly put the cap on his career.
There’s every reason to believe that Floyd means what he says and he intends this fight to be his last before he hangs up his gloves. However, there’s something that takes over most boxers who try to retire and compels them to go back into the ring.
Rocky Marciano was the rare exception. “The Rock” dominated the heavyweight division in the late 1940s and ‘50s and is widely considered to be one of the hardest punchers the division has ever known, but after he won the 49th fight of his career — against Archie Moore — the “Brockton Blockbuster” never got back into the ring. He retired with a perfect 49-0-0 record.
That’s what “Money” is aiming for as well, but he thinks such an undefeated record will earn him recognition that would put him on top of all the greats that preceded him.
TBE, the best ever.
Mayweather has always been the height of arrogance, and he sets a new standard in this area with this proclamation that’s been all over the Twitterverse. He also revealed his top five boxers in the sport’s history, and it’s a joke.
Not surprisingly, he puts his name at the top, followed by Roberto Duran, Pernell Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. and Muhammad Ali.
Just contemplate that for a minute. Ali, who called himself the greatest while he was promoting his many fights, had massive respect for Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson and Marciano. Those four fighters would certainly rank higher than Mayweather, and others who had more to offer in the ring include “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Harry Greb, Joe Gans, Benny Leonard, Henry Armstrong and Sam Langford.
That’s at least 11 fighters who were better than Floyd, and I would venture a guess that there are at least four more who could fit in that category.
Mayweather is a calculating and a brilliant fighter, but all of the fighters listed above left a piece of themselves in the ring every time they fought. They made their legacy by fighting their heart out every time they got into the ring.
Floyd fought as if he knew what his legacy could be and that the most important thing was coming out of the ring with a zero on the loss side.
Tactically, Mayweather is certainly among the best, and the same holds with his defensive skills. He prepares for each fight and when he gets in the ring, he knows what his opponent’s strengths and weaknesses are and he uses that knowledge to his advantage.
But when it comes to fighting memorable fights and putting on a show for the paying customer, Mayweather is simply not interested. He is not a crowd pleaser, and that has never been his intention.
Manny Pacquiao is a brilliant fighter and Floyd outflanked him and was strategically the better and more effective fighter. But did Mayweather let loose at any time and try to show that he was the dominant fighter in the ring? Did he have bad intentions against Pacquiao, Marcos Maidana, Canelo Alvarez, Roberto Guerrero and Miguel Cotto?
That’s not in his gameplan. Mayweather has incredible skills and talent, but he uses them to make sure his record ends with that zero.
He has never put himself at risk and he does not leave it all in the ring. He has gotten by without giving his all. He is not the greatest ever and the sad part is that perhaps he could have been.
All of the greats knew that you had to open your soul and leave a piece of it in the ring. Mayweather has never done that.
Perhaps he is smarter and sharper than any other boxer because he has not put himself in harm’s way. He’s clearly the best businessman in boxing history, but he is not the best fighter and he’s not even close.

Mayweather-Pacquiao lawsuits sent to California court

{The article below is first published in todayonline.com}

LAS VEGAS — Plaintiffs who say the May 2 Las Vegas fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr was a fraud and they deserve their pay-per-view money back will argue their cases in front of a federal judge in California.

Judge R Gary Klausner, the same judge hearing arguments in cases filed against the Sony movie studio related to a computer hacker attack last year, will decide if the Pacquiao cases are granted class-action status before any trial proceeds.

A panel of judges that decides whether to consolidate similar claims brought in different jurisdictions into a single courtroom ruled Friday (Aug 14) that lawsuits filed in several states will be heard in the Central District of California where Pacquiao was said to injure his shoulder while training for the fight.

The US Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation said in its decision that determining the severity and timing of the boxer's rotator-cuff injury could require "significant factual, and possibly expert, discovery".

The panel said questions about the facts of the case, including for example who knew about the injury, are sufficiently complex to warrant consolidating the large number of related cases.

At least 32 lawsuits had been filed as of mid-May in California, Nevada, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Texas. Several more appear to have been filed since.

Pacquiao and his promoter Top Rank are named in all of the lawsuits, and most include Mayweather, his promoters and cable companies HBO and Showtime.

In court filings, attorneys representing Pacquiao and Top Rank have said the claims are without merit.

An attorney for the defendants declined to comment yesterday. So did representatives for HBO and Showtime. Attempts to reach Mayweather's promoter by phone and email were unsuccessful.

The lawsuits argue the injury was not revealed until after the fight, too late for 4.4 million viewers who had already paid up to US$100 (S$140.84) each to watch it. HBO and Showtime have said they earned more than US$400 million from the fight.

Mayweather said: Pacquiao never had a damn injury

The Mayweather-Pacquiao saga seems to never go away especially with the mention of Pacquiao and his most recent rehab stint that he missed in the U.S. Bob Arum called Pacquiao unprofessional and an inactive fighter. Jefff Mayweather, the uncle of Floyd Mayweather Jr, told OnTheRopesBoxing.com, had Pacquiao won, we would have never heard of the injury.

“Of course you would never hear anything about no shoulder injury,” stated the trainer. “We would have never heard that, for a fact. The rematch, it probably would have been made because it would have been a fight worth so much money. It would have been huge, but it was all bs.”

Mayweather says Pacquiao is making himself look bad in the public and there isn’t any coming back from that for the time being.

“Pacquiao’s a guy who made himself look bad and now he doesn’t know how to recover,” stated Mayweather. “He doesn’t even know how to recover from what he’s just done. He lied to the public and then made himself look even worse because he lied about the fact that he even had an injury and then you have all these people saying, “Oh well you should have told us. We should get our money back.”

But at the end of it all, Mayweather feels there was never an injury.

“The reality is, he never had a damn injury in the first place. Fighters go into the ring with injuries all the time. Probably ninety percent of fighters go into the ring with injuries, in any combat sport. Not severe injuries, not like the lie that he told, but you have injuries, but they’re never mentioned because that’s part of boxing. If you’re in MMA, that’s a part of MMA. It’s a part of any combat sport, you go into the fight with injuries because you get injured preparing for the fight.”

Mayweather Only Has Two Options: Bradley or Pacquiao

{The following articles is written by Rick Jones of Boxingnews24.}

I strongly believe this is the end of the road for Floyd Mayweather Jr. I have been hearing rumor after rumor that his next opponent is Andre Berto and then I hear that it is Mayfield and then I hear it is Amir Khan. I think it is Hilarious and pretty damn disrespectful to the boxing fan that this is happening when the only two options for Mr. Money Mayweather are Timothy Bradley and a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

The funny thing about this whole situation is that Mayweather thinks his work is done in the sport of boxing. I give him the respect on the fact he beat a guy that he was avoiding for years but that’s it.

September 12th is his last fight and Showtime doesn’t expect much since all the backlash from the May vs Manny Pacquiao fight. Showtime is even ready to put the fight on CBS because they know very well that Mayweather’s next fight will not generate any type of numbers. Mayweather at this point does not care about the fans or anybody because he knows he gets paid regardless.

Showtime is going to take a little hit here of $32 -$35 million. which is ok because after the May vs Manny rip off prices they caught up to where they need to be. Which brings me to my main point why Timothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao are the still the fights people want to see. First off Bradley is a fighter that fights the same style like Mayweather utilizing skill and speed.

Bradley is a proven warrior that can walk through any punch which everyone saw in the Jesse Vargas fight and others before. I need an explanation from Mayweather why Berto deserves the fight over him and I hope we get it soon. Now as for Manny Pacquiao I feel like he didn’t fight the way he wanted to fight. I understand there was a bum shoulder involved but that doesn’t take way from the fact that he got out boxed and out classed in everyway. The people don’t see it that way and a lot of people are believing this non-sense if the shoulder was heal it would be a different fight. Ok well that is the only reason why people want the rematch.

At the end of the day Timothy Bradley deserves the next fight against Mayweather. He is the only boxer I would pay to see fight Mayweather and possibly beat him.

Watch Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao Live: TV Information for Philippines, India, US, UK, Thailand, Singapore and other Countries

Boxing fans around the world have been waiting for the fight of the century between two of the best pound-for-pound boxers, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, for a very long time. To be precise, the fight took around five years in the making.

The mega bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has finally come true with the fight to take shape on Saturday night.Reuters
The wait is finally over as "Pac-Man" and "Money" will share the same ring at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night. When the weigh-in took shape last night, around 11,500 watched the event being unfurled, so one cannot imagine the situation inside the MGM Grand as these two boxers will fight for WBC, WBA and WBO welterweight titles.

The fight is not only about titles and the mega prize money, but also about pride, for a victory will help them establish themselves as the best boxer in their category.

Booking sites have favoured Floyd Mayweather to win the bout, as they have reasons to do so as well, especially with the unbeaten streak that the American possesses, while Manny Pacquiao has lost five bouts till date.

But, the American is aware of the threat the Filipino brings to his unbeaten table, as his bout against Pacquiao is the biggest in his career so far. Money has fought against top boxers such as Marcos Maidana, Oscar de la Hoya, Saul Alvarez, Miguel Cotto amongst a host number of other top pugilists.

However, no bout can be compared to the fight of the century, which did not require major promotions to sell itself. Even the tickets, despite being priced very high, were sold off in a matter of minutes.

All these facts establish the magnitude of the mega bout, which is set to entertain fans all around the world.

Mayweather believes that he is going to be victorious, especially with the skills he possesses.

"I believe that with my skills, I'm going to be victorious," BBC quoted Mayweather as saying.

"I don't take anything away from Manny Pacquiao, he's a solid fighter and it will be an intriguing match-up."

"But after Saturday, I'll still be 'TBE' [The Best Ever]."

Both these boxers have a contrasting lifestyle: the American is always showing off his wealthy side, while the Filipino is a religious person, which can be understood from his words.

"The Lord will always be with me and strengthen me and deliver him into my hands," said Pacquiao.

"It's a great responsibility for me to give enjoyment to the fans. The fans deserve to have a good fight, whether they are a fan of Mayweather or Pacquiao."

However, there are a number of critics, who feel that both the boxers are past their prime and the fight might not live up to the expectations. With the training Pacquiao has undergone under Freddie Roach and Floyd under Mayweather Sr., expect the fight of the century to be remembered for centuries.

Will Mayweather's defence help him maintain his unbeaten streak or will Pacquiao's aggression shine? Only time will tell.

Where is the fight?

At the MGM Grand Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. The capacity of the venue is relatively small by American standards, at 16,500, but it is the modern home of boxing, having staged a multitude of huge fights in recent years.

The weigh-in

Friday night's weigh-in was a predictably boisterous affair. Mayweather came in one pound heavier, at 146lbs to Pacquiao's 145lbs.
What are they saying?

The boxers spoke on Wednesday in their final pre-fight press conference.

Manny Pacquiao ploughed a familiar furrow by invoking his faith:

Quote Everything I have accomplished, God has given me this strength. I used to sleep in the street, hungry, and I cannot imagine that the Lord raised me to this level of life.

Floyd Mayweather also attempted to stay humble:

Quote (It is) the biggest fight in boxing history and I'm a part of it so that's a great thing. I'm just truly, truly blessed to be where I'm at. I feel good, I feel strong and I'll see you guys Saturday. You guys came out here to see excitement, to see a great event and I think that's what both competitors bring to the table - excitement.

VideoWatch: Mayweather vs Pacquiao face off at final press conference

Meanwhile Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach cast doubt over whether Mayweather would show up:

Quote I wonder if he's going to show up. At the press conference in Los Angeles, I said we were going to kick his ass and I didn't get a response. I don't think any fighter is afraid. I think he was forced into this fight. I don't think he wants to fight this fight. He didn't get to pick his opponent.

Who's going to win?

Floyd Mayweather is favourite for Saturday's fight, with odds as short as 4/9 on with some bookmakers. 1/2 is the widely available price for Mayweather, whose odds have lengthed marginally since the fight was announced.

Manny Pacquiao is generally priced at 2/1 to beat the American. A draw is priced at around 18/1.

PICTURESHow Mayweather shows off his millions

The fight is expected to go the distance, with odds of 3/10 available and 12/5 for the fight not running to the end of a 12th round.

Several less conventional bets are available, including 4/1 for Pacquiao to be knocked down, 3/1 that Mayweather will be, and as long as 20/1 that both fighters will be downed during the fight.

Mayweather is 200/1 to win within 60 seconds, Pacquiao slightly shorter at 150/1 and either doing so is 66/1.
You can also get odds of 4/1 that one of the fighters will receive a points deduction.

Who will be in the corners?

Mayweather: Floyd Mayweather Sr. (trainer), Rafael Garcia (cutman), and Roger Mayweather (assistant).
Pacquiao: Freddie Roach (Trainer), Justin Fortune (Cutman), & Buboy Fernandez (Assistant).

Who is the referee and judges?

Kenny Bayless will be refereeing the fight: he has over 20 years of title fight experience and his appointment was welcomed by both fighters.
The three judges are Dave Moretti, Glenn Feldman and Burt Clements, who have all largely steered clear of controversy in their long careers.
How much are the boxers earning?

Loads. But Mayweather is earning a fair bit more than Pacquiao.

If four million people buy the fight the purse will be around $200m, which is £129m. Of that, Mayweather would take home £76m to Pacquiao's £53m, due to the 60:40 split agreed between the fighters.

The split fits the trend of Mayweather earning more, and being significantly richer than Pacquiao, as this graphic from BWin's excellent Ultimate Tale Of The Tape illustrates:

What's the undercard?

Two fights will be televised, but there are four taking place before those at the MGM Grand.

The undercard is subject to change, but here is the latest running order:

126 lbs: WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Leo "El Terremoto" Santa Cruz (29-0-1, 17 KOs) vs. Jose Cayetano (17-3, 8 KOs)
126 lbs: WBO Featherweight Champion Vasyl Lomachenko (3-1, 1 KO) vs. Gamalier Rodriguez (25-2-3, 17 KOs)

With Streaming Sites Down, Where Mayweather Vs Pacquiao Is Still Free

{The article below is written by Emma Woollacott for Forbes. Read the original article here.}

HBO and Showtime, which have the rights to this weekend’s boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr, are getting their gloves on early, taking action against two pirate sites that were planning to stream the fight.

Along with promoters Top Rank and Mayweather Promotions, they have filed a complaint with a federal court in Florida against boxinghd.net and sportship.org, which had announced plans to live-stream the fight. They’ve asked for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction, as well as, rather oddly, damages to compensate for expected losses and legal costs.

According to TorrentFreak, it’s the first time ever that a lawsuit has been filed over piracy that hasn’t yet taken place – Minority Report, disappointingly, not having attracted the same concern.

But the complaint claims that the two sites have form. “Plaintiffs are informed and believe and on that basis allege that Defendants have a long history of promoting infringing streams of copyrighted broadcasts of boxing matches,” it reads, listing the May 4, 2013 fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Robert Guerrero, as well as the July 12, 2014 fight between Erislandy Lara and Canelo Alvarez, as examples.

The stakes are high. Excitement about the contest – six years in the planning – means it’s expected to raise more than $300 million. At least half of this will come from pay-per-view sales at up to $100 a time – in numbers expected to significantly exceed the 2.48 million that watched the fight between Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.

And because it’s a live match, HBO and Showtime have a narrow window of opportunity to collect. While people are still prepared to pay for, say, Game of Thrones for quite a while after its initial screening, few will have much interest in watching the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight once it’s over and the result is known.

This makes it a potential gold mine for the streaming sites too, who have been advertising shamelessly.

“If you can’t afford to buy tickets then simply watch Mayweather vs Pacquiao here,” read the ad on boxinghd.net. “We will provide with nothing but the freshest and the most reliable high quality live links.”

You can watch the live streaming of Pacquiao vs Mayweather by clicking the following link: http://mannypacquiao-floydmayweather-stream.blogspot.com/2015/02/pacquiao-vs-mayweather-live-stream-free.html

But the threat appears to have worked – at least for now. Both boxinghd.net and sportship.org have been taken offline, although HBO and Showtime are still calling for a court order actually shutting the sites down to make sure that they don’t magically reappear on Saturday.

And they are, of course, just two sites amongst many. Indeed, HBO and Showtime still have a massive job ahead if they’re to make a serious dent in piracy on the big night. Teams of experts will no doubt be hard at it detecting pirate links and attempting to get them taken down.

There’s always the option of paying to watch at one of the many sports bars screening the fight.
However, entirely by design, many viewers around the world will be able to watch the match in the comfort of their own homes for substantially less than the $100 price in the US.

In the UK, for example, it’s available through Sky Box Office for just £19.99, or around $31. In Scandinavia, it’s around $60, and in Spain just $13. In Pacquiao’s home country, the Philippines, the fight will be broadcast live on both cable TV and free-to-air.

And in Mexico, TV companies Televisa and Azteca have also won the right to show the fight for free; get a good deal on a flight, therefore, and it might just be worth considering a weekend away.

On This Day: Jose Luis Castillo creates blueprint on how to beat Floyd Mayweather

{The article below was first published in fightofthecentury.com.uk. Read the original article here.}

Manny Pacquiao will undoubtedly have watched this fight for inspiration, writes James Slater

TO this day, the critics of Floyd Mayweather Jr point to his first fight with Mexico’s Jose Luis Castillo when they wish to prove that Mayweather is neither invincible nor, as he himself claims to be, “T. B.E,” The Best Ever.

Back On This Day in 2002, Mayweather, in the eyes of his fiercest critics, actually lost a fight. Even those who feel Mayweather deserved the unanimous decision that went his way after 12 rough and tough rounds agree how “Money,” or “Pretty Boy,” as Floyd was known at the time, looked anything but great.

Going up against Castillo, at The MGM Grand in his home of Las Vegas, 25-year-old Mayweather challenged the 28-year-old known as “El Terrible” for the Mexican’s WBC lightweight crown. What happened in the ring that night has certainly become the subject of great debate; becoming even more so as the years have passed and Mayweather’s greatness has grown. Was Castillo robbed that night, or, at the very least, is the Mexican the only man to have come close to putting down a blueprint (something Floyd claims does not exist) on how to defeat the exceptionally gifted multi-weight king?

Mayweather won the early rounds that night, but Castillo, an underrated boxer who was also uncommonly tough, came on after a slow start and began putting rounds in the bank. How did Castillo achieve the mid-rounds success he enjoyed – by forgetting about Mayweather’s head and instead targeting, with efficiency, his midsection. Castillo, cutting off the ring, boxed a patient fight, he did not get flustered by Floyd’s superb defensive moves and head movement, and he also used his physical strength by leaning on Mayweather, looking to both slow him down and tire him out. These tactics proved effective, enough for many respected judges to feel that Mayweather should not be sporting the perfect record he is today.

Officially, Mayweather improved to 29-0 and captured his second world title by margins of 116-111 and 115-111 twice. But Castillo, who fell to 45-5-1, was convinced he’d done enough to have won. Those who agreed/agree with him include Harold Lederman of HBO, who had it a wide 115-111 for Castillo. Dan Rafael of ESPN had it all even at 114-114.

After the far tougher than expected rumble, Mayweather underwent surgery on his left shoulder. Floyd had partially blamed his damaged rotator cuff for the tough win and craved a rematch. The two met again in December of 2002, with Mayweather winning in a more convincing manner this time; in a showing even his critics were forced to applaud. Interestingly, however, the judges’ scores were far closer in the rematch, with Floyd prevailing by just two points on two cards.

The Castillo fights took place a long, long time ago, and it’s almost certainly testament to Mayweather’s brilliance that his critics continue to clutch at straws in pointing a finger towards the first meeting as “proof” that he is not the sublime talent everyone else agrees he is. But all the same, Manny Pacquiao may well opt to take a look at the first Mayweather-Castillo clash as he continues training for his own shot at taking away Floyd’s zero; even if Pac-Man has a very different fighting style to Castillo.

Can Pacquiao use his own blend of speed, power and strength to go one better than Castillo and actually win on May 2nd?

Roach: I see Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight as good vs. evil

{The following article is written by Chris Williams of Boxingnews24.com. Read the original article by clicking the source link below the article.}

For the past couple of weeks trainer Freddie Roach has been trash talking Floyd Mayweather Jr. and giving him very little credit for him having been boxing’s No.1 fighter for most of his long career.

Roach even went so far as to say that Mayweather was taught wrong from the start of his career. But now Roach is characterizing Mayweather’s May 2nd mega-fight against Manny Pacquiao as a good vs. evil type of fight with Pacquiao being the good guy and Mayweather representing the evil side.

Roach says that Pacquiao doesn’t like Mayweather as a person, and this makes Roach really happy. He feels that Pacquiao’s dislike for Mayweather will cause him to fight harder than he normally does. With Pacquiao putting more aggression into his fights

“It is really hard to say these things in public, but I know (Mayweather) is a bad guy,” Roach said via USAtoday.com. “(I see the fight as) good against evil, yes. I have even thought about bringing a couple of the metro cops from Vegas in to tell Manny how many times (Mayweather) has been arrested and how bad of a guy he is, but I decided I can’t go that far. He already doesn’t like him; I think we are OK.”

In Roach’s good vs. evil characterization of the fight, he seems to be going way overboard in trying to hype the fight. The fight is big enough on its own to where it doesn’t need Roach to going for Mayweather’s throat in simplifying the fight in that manner. It’s obviously Roach’s opinion, but it seems very odd to put it like that.

SEE ALSO: http://mannypacquiao-floydmayweather-stream.blogspot.com/2015/02/pacquiao-vs-mayweather-live-stream-free.html

Roach painting Mayweather as a bad guy isn’t going to help things for his fighter Pacquiao any. Pacquiao is still going to need to have the talent to actually beat Mayweather otherwise Roach will have wasted all his time with his talk about Mayweather.

I don’t think Pacquiao comes out ahead by him disliking Mayweather. If anything, it’s likely to cause Pacquiao to fight even harder than he normally does, and that could lead to him fighting in a really sloppy manner and getting knocked out by Mayweather. If Pacquiao had never been knocked unconscious before, I think it would be potentially a good thing for him to dislike Mayweather.

Pacquiao could fight harder and maybe beat him if he had a steel chin. But I don’t think it’s safe for Pacquiao to be fighting with reckless abandon against Mayweather given Pacquiao’s knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.

Mayweather is punching harder now that he’s working out with strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza, and this could lead to Mayweather knocking Pacquiao out on May 2nd. The knockout loss would be blamed by some boxing fans in part due to Pacquiao disliking Mayweather so much.

“Manny is really against domestic violence,” Roach said. “It is a big issue maybe in the Philippines for him and being a congressman he can control some of that stuff. That is a big plus for me that Manny does not like the guy, I think the killer instinct is going to come back a lot faster.”

I think it really makes the fight ugly with Roach talking like this. Mayweather isn’t trash talking Roach and Pacquiao by getting in the gutter and looking to dissect them in this way. I don’t think it helps the fight to have Roach talking like this. He should be focusing on the actual fight rather than talking about personal stuff outside of the ring. This is a fight that they’re obviously trying to sell to casual boxing fans who may not be too familiar with either fighter. It’s bad news if they hear or read stuff about Roach talking trash about Mayweather.

Mayweather is 'a bad guy' and Pacquiao 'doesn't like him', Freddie Roach says

{The following article is from examiner.com. Read the original article here.}

In a remarkably revealing article released yesterday by USA TODAY Sports, Freddie Roach candidly reflected on the trauma he suffered as a result of domestic violence, and the deep seated resentment WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has for the reigning WBC, WBA welterweight champion and world #1 ranked pound-for-pound fighter Floyd Mayweather.

That article is the focus of this one, as the Filipino icon will square off with his bitter rival to end their epic saga in the much anticipated May 2 showdown.

Watch the fight on May 2 by clicking the following link: http://mannypacquiao-floydmayweather-stream.blogspot.com/2015/02/pacquiao-vs-mayweather-live-stream-free.html

Mayweather, the erstwhile ostentatious and brash champion of little modesty with an ego the size of the U.S. deficit, has had the mute button in effect for the most part since his stoic appearance at the press conference on March 12 in Hollywood. Many have speculated that this is an indication "Money" is on high alert and greatly concerned about "Pac-Man", while others suspect it is nothing more than extreme focus to deliver the best performance of his career.

It better be.

According to Roach, the man who will be opposite the former "Pretty Boy" Floyd in a few weeks, will be the nastiest version of the fighter he's trained in nearly 15 years. A fighter even more savage than the one his father Floyd Sr. last saw on another May 2, almost six years ago, when Pacquiao eviscerated Ricky Hatton in two violent rounds to erase him from the sport.

"Manny is really against domestic violence," Roach said. "It is a big issue maybe in the Philippines for him and being a congressman he can control some of that stuff. That is a big plus for me that Manny does not like the guy, I think the killer instinct is going to come back a lot faster."

Roach has seen domestic violence up close and personal; as his mother, Barbara Roach, was often assaulted by her late husband Paul Roach in front of a young Freddie Roach, and he would often viciously attack him as well. Roach, who today suffers from Parkinson's, recounted in the USA Today piece an incident in which his father kicked him in the head.

"(My husband) was a tough guy," she reflected on Paul Roach. "In those days you could be. He would be in jail if it was now. But I survived it, and I outlived him."

It remains to be seen whether Josie Harris, mother to 3 of Mayweather's 4 children, survives Floyd. But she did survive a violent attack from Floyd (which occurred in front of their two sons -- according to recorded police statements), one that received international attention. For Ray Rice'ing Harris, Mayweather was incarcerated and forced to enjoy bologna not sold in grocery stores for the summer of 2012.

In fact, Floyd has been involved in seven documented instances of violence against five different women, something that incenses Pacquiao according to Roach. It is widely known that Pacquiao has inspected panties other than those of his wife Jinkee's, and was a party animal at different stages of his marriage and career. But he owned those infractions - as chronicled in the poignant indie film "Manny" - while repairing his marriage and family in admirable fashion, and displaying a genuine benevolence for his entire nation.

Pacquiao has a burning disdain for vile things Mayweather has done in front of his children, as they've repeatedly seen the venomously racist video released by Floyd in 2010. It was in that infamous video in which he referred to Pacquiao as "a little yellow chump" and to "make me some sushi rolls and cook some rice".

Roach has known Mayweather "since he was 5", and reveals Floyd has always been very respectful when he's been around him, calling him "Mr. Roach" and has never knowingly sought to harm him personally. That said, Roach (no saint, who sprinkles filthy language everywhere he goes- including church) feels that Floyd lacks "character", and will pay serious consequences for insulting Pacquiao and his nation of the Philippines.

"It's really hard to say these things in public, but I know (Mayweather) is a bad guy," admitted Roach. "For the first time in my life with Manny Pacquiao, this is the first fighter he hasn't liked. I can tell."

USA TODAY Sports contacted Mayweather's chief adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, to seek a response to Roach's comments. Ellerbe did not return phone calls and text messages Tuesday. But that didn't stop Roach from closing the show.

"(I see the fight as) good against evil, yes. I have even thought about bringing a couple of the metro cops from Vegas in to tell Manny how many times (Mayweather) has been arrested and how bad of a guy he is, but I decided I can't go that far. He already doesn't like him; I think we're OK there."

So are we.

Pacquiao is 'going to stop' Mayweather, says Bob Arum

{The article below is first published in examiner.com. Read the original article here.}

With a live gate of over 74 million that has shattered all previous records for any fight in history and with total revenue expected to exceed 400 million, there really isn't much need to promote the upcoming mega-fight between Floyd "Money" Mayweather and arch nemesis Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao.

Bob Arum, after inspecting Pacquiao's conditioning, is supremely confident that Manny Pacquiao will KO Floyd Mayweather.

Perhaps it was the arrival of Mickey Rouke, who showed up at the Wild Card Gym in La-La land sporting gauze and bandages on his nose (nobody ever does that in Hollywood). Hell, maybe he was the mystery sparring partner who reportedly (according to Freddie Roach) bothered TMT and Al Haymon so much.

Watch the live fight for free online on May 2 here: http://mannypacquiao-floydmayweather-stream.blogspot.com/2015/02/pacquiao-vs-mayweather-live-stream-free.html

In any event, Top Rank's long-time "Don" Bob Arum, continues to display the confidence so readily apparent from the podium at the glitzy Los Angeles launch on March 12. After witnessing Pacquiao over the weekend, the legendary promoter decided to weigh in on the potential outcome of a fight that needs no help at all.

"He's better than I've ever seen him," Arum told assembled international media. "I really think Manny's going to stop him [Mayweather]."

Arum has consistently maintained that Pacquiao would always beat Mayweather, but feels at this stage of their careers, Pacquiao holds a firm edge in several key areas. Of course, he's supposed to say this, especially given the foulness which accompanied the rather acrimonious split between Mayweather and his Top Rank brand.

"I think he [Manny] has the better skill set of the two at this stage of their careers. I think he'll win with movement, by the number of punches that he throws, and I think his foot speed is better."

Floyd probably believes Arum is worth at least a $1000 bowl of the worst crow Chef Q can come up with, as he's never been out-gunned -- or really even out-anything'd, over the course of his illustrious career. There was the jazzy style of Emanuel Augustus and the brave volume of a Ronnie Shields trained Jesus Chavez. Then there was the unrelenting pressure of Ricky Hatton.

Mayweather stopped them all, and has added strength during this camp with the intention of stopping Pacquiao himself. Arum isn't buying it at all, not even on clearance, owed to his belief in Pacquiao's unique blend of speed and style from the southpaw stance.

"Mayweather 's an excellent fighter, no question about that, and he creates a tremendous challenge for Manny. But I think Manny at this stage can rise to that challenge and win the fight."

Pacquiao has been an absolute monster in training camp thus far, as his rather talkative trainer Freddie Roach concurs with Arum, a man who long ago promoted his wild, 'do or die' type action adventures in the ring. "This is the best Manny I've ever had. All the focus a trainer could ever want out of a fighter and I'm really happy where we're at," sprayed Roach. "He is in top condition. Manny is a freak."

Manny Pacquiao will go into street fighting with Mayweather on May 2

We all know Manny Pacquiao is the most aggressive boxer probably in the history of boxing. He would not only throw 2 or 3 or 4 combinations but 6 , 7, 8, and another 2 and then 2 again. He would rest a second or so, and then box you again. He would seem to back off but only to realize he is going forward again right after he throws you 10, 11, 12 punch combinations. He just won't stop punching. He's a perpetual puncher. He won't stop until you get down on your knees.

We don't call it just boxing. But street fighting. Manny Pacquiao is a street fighter more than a boxer. Not critically, but instinctively. You see the natural fighter in him, a street fighter. All this comes from the poverty he experienced in early life. He was not fighting in the ring for the title or the belt. He was fighting in the ring for his life. Otherwise, he and his family would die from hunger.

His boxing skills and the way he boxes is probably not even in the boxing books. His footwork , his technique probably cannot be found in boxing school. Maybe in martial arts, but not in boxing, most probably.

So I am going to predict that Manny will not only box FLoyd Mayweather on May 2, but he will street-fight him. He will fight him as if he's a threat in his life. Manny Pacquiao will fight Mayweather as though he is his worst enemy.

I remember the legend Julio Cesar Chavez said about the Marquez-Pacquiao fight in the past that Manny should stop thinking when fighting Marquez. When he street fights Marquez, Marquez doesn't know what to do anymore.

So, my prediciton is: Manny Pacquiao will street fight Mayweather on May 2. He will not go into boxing, the psychological warfare, the smart moves as in a chess game. Manny Pacquiao will street-fight him. He will kill him.

Let us review Manny Pacquiao's fights in the past and see how he was as a street fighter more than a boxer with the video below created by OfficeHanchoBoxing YouTube channel:

Roy Jones Jr. said the only way for Floyd Mayweather to win is knock Manny Pacquiao out

Former middleweight world champion Roy Jones Jr, has openly spoken about his analysis on the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight on May 2.

Although he predicted that Floyd's going to win, he publicly stated that the only way for Floyd to win is to knock Manny Pacquiao out. Seems a little hazy about his prediction because while he states that Mayweather will have better chances to win, he also said that if a decision take place after round 12 (means no KO or TKO), Manny will win with the decision.

This simply shows that Roy Jones Jr. is favoring Manny. Before, Roy Jones Jr. said all of these predictions and analysis, boxing experts and critics, even the Team Pacquiao, believes that the only way for Manny to win is to knock Floyd Mayweather out, because of bias, because of Las Vegas favoring Floyd. So which is which?

Watch the fight on May by clicking the link below:

http://mannypacquiao-floydmayweather-stream.blogspot.com/2015/02/pacquiao-vs-mayweather-live-stream-free.html

The former middleweight champion's statement simply means that Floyd has to engage with Manny in order for him to win, in order for him to knock Manny out. Meaning, Floyd should also throw punches just as Manny surely will, being known as the offensive, aggressive fighter. Floyd should force himself to become the offensive in order to win and not more on the defensive, or both, in order to win. Just like what Juan Manuel Marquez and Eric Morales did when they fought Manny. So if a decision comes, Floyd will have better chances to win.

Seems the coin now has been turned to the other side.

Let's figure out from these videos what Roy Jones Jr. has to tell and let us listen closely:

Muhammad Ali picks Pacquiao to win

{The following article is first published in ABS-CBNNews}

“The Greatest” has spoken and he picked Manny Pacquiao to win over Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The legendary Muhammad Ali is siding with the eight-division champion from the Philippines, according to his daughter Rasheda Ali.

“My dad is Team Pacquiao all the way!" Rasheda Ali told TMZ. "My dad really likes Manny. He's a huge fan of his."

She said Ali and Pacquiao have been friends for years. The two met when the Filipino superstar attended Ali's 70th birthday party in 2012.

According to Rasheda, her father is most impressed about how Pacquiao conducts himself outside the ring.

"He knows Manny's a great fighter ... but it's more about what he does outside the ring. He's such a charitable person," said Rasheda.

Ironically, it is Mayweather who has been emulating Ali’s flamboyant personality.

"My dad stood for things. Mayweather ... I don't think there's a comparison," said Rasheda.

Ali would have wanted to watch the super fight live, but the 73-year-old boxing legend is suffering from Parkinson’s disease and won’t be able to handle the stress and the crowds at the MGM Grand Arena.

Rasheda said her father will have to settle watching the fight on pay-per-view.

"There's no question he's going to order it. It takes my dad way back to when he was fighting," she said.

Ali’s other daughter Laila Ali, however, earlier predicted that Mayweather will beat Pacquiao.

Laila, a retired boxer, said the talent of the undefeated American will be too much for the Filipino superstar.

"I'll probably go with Mayweather because he is a skilled fighter. He is a superior talent," Laila told Boxing Scene. "Pacquiao is a great fighter, but I always go with skills over just being a brawler like Pacquiao.”

The mega-bout between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be broadcast on free TV simultaneously on ABS-CBN, GMA 7 and TV5.

{The following article is first published in ABS-CBN News.}

For the first time in Philippine television history, three competing broadcast networks will unite to air the highly anticipated mega-fight between Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather Jr.

This was announced in a joint press conference held by the three networks together with Solar Sports Thursday at Solaire.

"Maraming, maraming salamat sa GMA 7, ABS-CBN, TV5 at sa Solar Sports sa pagkakaisa nila para maipakita (at) maipalabas sa ating mga kababayan ang fight na ito," Pacquiao, who is training in Los Angeles, said via video call.

"Natutuwa ako sa kanilang pagkakaisa na ang hinahangad ay para sa ating mga kababayan. Salamat," he added.

Dino Laurena, head of ABS-CBN Integrated Sports, said the unprecedented partnership among the networks will give Filipino fans the chance to watch the most important fight of Pacquiao's career.

Emmanuel Pacquiao said a few words during Solar Entertainment Corporation's presser earlier today. See what the Pacman has to say regarding Abs-Cbn, GMA Network, and TV5's "unity" in bringing the #PacFloyd fight to as many Filipinos in the PHL as possible.

Posted by philstar.com on Thursday, March 26, 2015

"Everybody will have an opportunity to watch Manny Pacquiao lay his claim that he is better than Mayweather," said Laurena.

Also present at the press conference was Sports5 chief Chot Reyes, who said: "We're thankful that we are going to be a part of it. We can't wait to show everyone when Manny beats Mayweather."

The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will be aired on free television on a slightly delayed basis, while Solar Sports will air the bout on cable. The fight will also be broadcast live on radio via GMA's dzBB.

"The crime rate will be zero," said Laurena, "because everybody will be looking at screens that this aggregation of networks will provide."

All parties involved credited Pacquiao in making the deal happen, with Solar Entertainment chief executive Wilson Tieng saying it was the "Pacman" who wanted to unify the networks in showing his bout.

The deal took three weeks to finalize, Tieng also said.

"The good thing is magkakasama na lahat ng networks, as it was originally desired by Manny Pacquiao," Laurena also said. "Congressman Pacquiao really wanted everyone in the Philippines to watch this."

SM Cinemas will also show the bout in over 100 theaters nationwide, with tickets prices ranging from P600 to P1,000. SM will start selling tickets on March 27.

Sky Cable and Cignal are the official pay-per-view providers.

The fight will take place on May 3, Philippine time.

How Floyd Mayweather Jr Can Beat Manny Pacquiao, According To Bernard Hopkins

{The article below is written by Rachel Corpuz of International Business Times.}

Bernard Hopkins is the latest to weigh in on the much-talked about fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao. The 50-year-old former light heavyweight titlist recently shared his thoughts about what Mayweather needs to do to beat the Filipino eight-division world champion.

In an article by CBS Sports, Hopkins claimed that if Mayweather gets past the first few rounds, the undefeated American fighter can certainly beat the Filipino. Hopkins sees that Pacquiao will try to devastate Mayweather with his trademark boxing style in the first six rounds or less.

Mayweather has proven in some of his past fights that he can easily make adjustments. Mayweather had made adjustments when he fought Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya and Victor Ortiz. Hopkins reckons that Mayweather must be able to do the same thing and must learn how to adjust to the Filipino in their mega-buck showdown in Las Vegas on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

According to Hopkins, it is going to be an easy fight for Mayweather if he can adjust as far as distance is concerned. Mayweather will not only have to adjust his striking distance but he should also be able to prevent a threat when Pacquiao rushes at him. Hopkins also believes Mayweather should trade more punches with Pacquiao to win.

“Floyd has to produce more than he has before, in terms of punching,” Hopkins said. “He’s not fighting Hatton - Pacquiao can bring it all night so Floyd’s jab and counterpunching will be the key.”

Like many, Hopkins puts his money on Mayweather against the underdog Pacquiao. However, Hopkins said that winning the bout would not be a ludicrously easy task for Mayweather. He said that Mayweather can win as well as be beaten up and lose his 47-fight winning streak. As for his last words, Hopkins said Mayweather will beat Pacquiao by controversial decision.

Pacquiao has lost twice in his last five fights including his dramatic knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012. He has not scored a knockout since he let go of Alex Ariza, who is now with Mayweather’s camp. With less than a couple of months until fight date, both camps are shifting to high gears in their training camps as they continue their preparations for the superfight.

As the bout draws closer, ESPN reported that the superfight is projected to break all revenue records in the history of boxing. With ticket prices ranging from $1500 to $10,000, the fight will reportedly pull in an estimated $74 million at the gate. It will break the gate record from Mayweather’s fight with Canelo Alvarez, which amounted to $20 million.

Mayweather declines $5-million fine for failed drug test

{The following article is written by Dan Rafael of ESPN.com}

Manny Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz told ESPN.com on Thursday that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has declined to agree to terms for a penalty that would cost either man $5 million in the event of a failed drug test before or after their May 2 megafight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"Today we were informed that Mayweather turned down the request," Koncz said. "Manny had requested that there would be a reciprocal fine of $5 million for a failed drug test."

Koncz said even though the agreements for the fight are signed, as is a separate agreement for the United States Anti-Doping Agency to oversee random blood and urine testing for the fight, they were still discussing terms for a substantial fine in the event of a dirty test. But Koncz said Mayweather attorney Jeremiah Reynolds sent a letter to Pacquiao attorney David Moroso on Thursday declining to enter into any agreements on a financial penalty for a failed drug test.

Manny Pacquiao's adviser says Floyd Mayweather Jr. has declined a $5 million penalty for either fighter in the event of a failed drug test before or after their May 2 megafight in Las Vegas.
Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions and Mayweather's close adviser, said Koncz should have had those terms negotiated into the main contract.

"Michael Koncz is an idiot, and Manny Pacquiao should be ashamed to have him as his representative, in my opinion," Ellerbe told ESPN.com. "It's obvious he didn't read the contract. Why would he have his fighter sign something he was not happy with? The deal was negotiated up and down by his promoter [Bob Arum of Top Rank] on behalf of Manny with Floyd and Mayweather Promotions, and it's been well documented in the media for quite some time.

"If this moron didn't convey his fighter's wishes when the negotiation was going on, that's their problem. This is a lame-ass attempt to generate publicity."

Drug testing, of course, has been front and center throughout the five-plus-year saga to get boxing's most anticipated fight signed. When the sides first negotiated the bout in late 2009 and early 2010, they had agreed to all aspects of the deal except for the drug-testing protocol. Mayweather insisted on random, Olympic-style blood and urine testing, Pacquiao declined to agree to the specific form of drug testing and the deal fell apart.

Not long after that, Pacquiao sued Mayweather for defamation and slander for saying that he had used performance-enhancing drugs, which Pacquiao has always denied. The case was ultimately settled out of court with Mayweather paying Pacquiao an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

"They have made derogatory statements for years about Manny [supposedly using PEDs], and now we challenged them by asking for the $5 million fine, and they refused to do it. It's disheartening," Koncz said.

Mayweather has required himself and his opponents to be tested by USADA for all of his bouts since 2010, while Pacquiao has sometimes used the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association to randomly test him and his opponent in recent years.

For the May 2 welterweight unification bout, expected to be the richest fight in boxing history, Pacquiao agreed to Mayweather's demand for USADA testing, and they signed contracts with the agency about three weeks ago.

When asked why Pacquiao didn't negotiate the fine into the master fight agreement, Koncz said he was concerned with getting the fight signed and did not want to do anything to jeopardize very delicate negotiations. Besides, he said, both camps knew they would have to sign a separate agreement with USADA to outline the specific terms of the testing.

"We were still discussing the penalty. We've been going back and forth about it for the past three or four weeks. We hoped that we could sign that agreement around the same time as the agreement with USADA," Koncz said. "[The Mayweather camp] is saying, 'Why wasn't it brought up for the main contract?' Why does it have to be brought up for the main contract? Everything in the main contract pertains to the co-promotion and the promoters. You can argue all day if [a penalty agreement] should be with the USADA contract or the main contract. What do you have to lose or gain in that argument? It's a simple thing -- if you fail, you pay the other guy $5 million. The issue is simple -- are you willing to agree to a penalty of $5 million? The drug-testing terms and any penalty, that's between the fighters not the promoters.

"We have no recourse. We can't force Floyd into something. But we gave them an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is and they wouldn't. I won't speculate why. To me there is no legitimate argument. We know we're clean. That's why Manny said he would pay $5 million if he tested dirty. Manny was surprised [Mayweather refused]. He can't figure out why they wouldn't agree to it when Floyd is always talking about cleaning up the sport of boxing."

Added Ellerbe: "If Manny Pacquiao tested positive it is going to cost him a whole lot more than $5 million. All parties signed a contract agreeing to every term. Where has this idiot Koncz been? It sounds like he didn't read the documents they signed. No wonder why his fighter is always confused. It sounds like that idiot is suggesting there's a $5 million price tag if Manny comes up positive. That sounds suspicious. All I know is we welcome random testing as we always have."

Koncz said Pacquiao, who is training at trainer Freddie Roach's Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California, has so far submitted to two random tests by USADA.

Ellerbe said he was unsure how many times Mayweather has been tested but said he has seen the specimen collectors around Mayweather's Las Vegas gym "three or four times" since he began training for the fight.

Mayweather Sr: Pacquiao vulnerable to getting knocked out

{The following article is written by Chris Williams: of BoxingNews24}

Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr thinks that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will be vulnerable to getting knocked out when he gets inside the ring with WBA/WBC 147 pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) in their fight on 5/2.

Floyd Sr points out correctly that Pacquiao was knocked unconscious by Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, and because of that, Pacquiao could be vulnerable to getting knocked out again if he gets caught with a big shot by Mayweather Jr on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Of course, any time somebody’s been knocked ice cold like that, man, of course they can get knocked out again – quick, fast and in a hurry,” Floyd Sr said via Mlive.com.

The question is will Pacquiao be able to take the big shots that Mayweather nails him with on May 2nd? While Mayweather isn’t as big a puncher as someone like Marquez, he hits with close enough power to knockout someone who may not have the same punch resistance that he once had. What makes Mayweather even more dangerous is that he’s got a lot of hand speed, so he’s going to be catching Pacquiao with punches that he doesn’t see coming.

When you combine Pacquiao’s sloppy, overly aggressive style of fighting with that of Mayweather’s fast hands, it could lead to Pacquiao getting hit on the button by a shot that he doesn’t see coming. It doesn’t matter that Mayweather isn’t the most furious puncher in the welterweight division; if he catches Pacquiao with a good shot, he’s going to knock him out.

“I heard about what Freddie said about Roger’s better,” Floyd Sr said. “He can say that all he wants to say it. You want me to tell you what Freddie wants? He wants Roger in there because he knows I’m the man.”

I believe that that Roach wants Roger in there as the No.1 trainer for Mayweather mainly because Mayweather is a lot more aggressive as a fighter with Roger training him than he is with Floyd Sr. Roger has always been a guy who has encouraged Mayweather to mix it up with his opponents.

This could be due to Roger having been a dangerous knockout artist during his own pro career, so he wants to see a lot of offense. But with Floyd Sr, he’s focused more on the defensive side of the game. He doesn’t want to see his son Mayweather Jr take punishment in his fights. He wants him to win without getting hit.

What’s interesting about this is that Floyd Sr was a very aggressive fighter during his own pro career, and he wasn’t afraid to mix it up with his opposition, which led to him getting hit a lot, and taking losses when he stepped it up against better opposition during his career. But as a trainer, Floyd Sr is a completely different type of guy. He doesn’t want his fighters to get hit.

Roach obviously knows that Pacquiao stands a better chance if Mayweather is fighting aggressively compared to when he’s fighting defensively; hence we’re seeing Roach bad mouthing Floyd Sr while building up Roger Mayweather. It appears that Roach is trying to implant an idea into the head of Mayweather Jr that Roger is the better fighter in order for Mayweather to replace Floyd Sr before the May 2nd fight.

I don’t think it’s going to work, because it’s so transparent. There’s no way that Mayweather is going to replace his father with Roger at this point, because Floyd Sr has done a great job of bringing back Mayweather’s old style of fighting in which he was a more defensive fighter. Mayweather didn’t quite follow the scrip for his first fight against Marcos Maidana last year, but in his second fight, he was back on board with what his father wanted him to do in fighting defensively and winning without getting hit a lot.

“He [Mayweather] doesn’t care about the fans at all,” Roach said. He has to exchange more because his legs won’t take him out of the way. When he has to exchange with Pacquiao, I think that’s good for us. That’s why I think we’re going to win this fight.”

There it is. Roach is giving away what he’s really after in trying to create turbulence between Floyd Sr and Roger. Roach needs Mayweather to exchange with Pacquiao in order for him to have a chance of beating Mayweather. That’s just the way it is. The 36-year-old Pacquiao is too short, and his reach too limited for him to be able to fight Mayweather if he fights defensively and moves around the ring.

Roach is smart enough to realize this on his own. That’s why he’s hoping and praying that Mayweather fights Pacquiao in a toe-to-toe manner by standing perfectly still like Pacquiao’s last three opponents have done. That’s the only way Pacquiao can win, because he doesn’t have the reach to connect against a moving target.

How many punches can Manny throw in one minute while shadowboxing?

{Updated for corrections}

A very interesting question. I had always thought about it. I've imagined it, but never have actually counted or estimated it. Never researched about it.

There is no count as exactly how many punches Manny Pacquiao can throw while shadowboxing. Nobody ever tried to count.

So let's try to count, even though shadowboxing is faster than punching the opponent in the ring in a real fight. Even faster than punching a heavy bag. It depends how much a boxer will throw punches. So the stamina will determine the amount of punches a boxer can throw, whether in shadowboxing, punching a bag, or in a real fight.

I tried my best. I counted it based on this video below.

Take note that this video is his recent training video as of this date, his preparation for the May 2 fight. Imagine the speed he had 5 or 6 years ago. So, lets just try to base his speed now, his speed today.

I did my best, for maybe ten to 12 times repeating the video on the part where he's shadowboxing.

From the video I started at :16 seconds until :23 seconds, where he stopped. What I have come up was 50. 50 punches in 7 seconds. Could be a little less or a little more than 50. But that's the closest I can get.

It is really hard to count the punches since his hand speed is so fast you can't see the punches throwing. Even if you base it on his yell or the kiai (used in martial arts for short yell when attacking an opponent), it is very difficult to count. I wish I had the video on slow motion, but I can only play it in YouTube since it's not downloadable.

So that's I've come up. Manny Pacquiao can punch 50 in 7 seconds.

Considering Manny's gas is so tremendous, let us assume he can shadowbox in a minute. That will be 450 punches in one minute if he can maintain the phase. I've divided 60 seconds by 7 is equal to 8.5714. Let's round off to 8. 8 x 7 is 56. So let's cut off the 4 seconds that could have been 60 seconds, to make it a minute. Let's assume he stopped at 56 seconds.

So, for 50 punches in every 7 seconds, that would be 450 punches in 56 seconds.

What about you? Have you counted it? How much you've got?
